2012 Dakota Classic/NFAA National Unmarked 3-D Championships

  Yankton, South Dakota  July  6-8

Tim Gillingham win’s the Classic and the 3-d Nationals!

Paul Tedford win’s the car!

Orem, UT – Gold Tip Dominates Yankton!!  Just about everything there was to win this weekend at the 3rd leg of the 3-Star Tour was won with a Gold Tip shafts.

Shooters vie for prize money and prestige over two days of shooting at three distances each day of 40, 50 and 60 yards with a total of 60 arrows each day being shot for score.  Known for its windy conditions, Yankton, the site of the 3rd Leg of the 3-Star tour is far and away the most accuracy driven event in the tour being that it is shot outdoors, at much longer distances than the other two indoor events.

It was windy the first day and Tim Gillingham raised to the lead with a 3 point lead over the field with his Gold Tip Kinetic shafts.  The second day of competition was much calmer and some great scores were shot and the leader board shuffled around a bit.  Gold Tip staffer, Jesse Broadwater posted the high score of the day with his Ultralight Pro 400’s, only dropping three tens all day.  Five of the top ten scores were Gold Tip shooters with Tim Gillingham taking the win with a very tight contest that was settled on the last end of competition with a perfect score of five tens to take home his first win of the year and take the lead in the NFAA Pro Men’s Shooter of the Year race.  Close behind were teammate Jesse Broadwater in third and new rookie Pro Gold Tip shooter Henry Bass in 5th place.

One of the novelties of the Dakota Classic is the shootoff for the car that is offered to all participants of the 3-Star Tour that shot all three events.  It starts at ten yards and backs up every five yards on the unforgiving “car target” until a winner is decided.  In very gusty conditions it was no surprise that 3 of the last 4 shooters were all shooting Gold Tip and new Gold Tip Staff Shooter Paul Tedford of   Great Falls, MT took home the keys to the Mustang after eliminating Jesse Broadwater in the finals.  Congrats Paul, those Ultralight 400’s must be working well.

Also held in conjunction with this event is the annual NFAA National Unmarked 3-D Championships.  30 targets each day for a grand total of 60 targets, Gold Tip Staff Manager Tim Gillingham and his Ultralight Pro 30X’s shafts took a commanding lead and never looked back.  Tim has won this event several times in the past 5 yrs.  He finished with a score of 74 up for the 60 targets and was crowned the 2012 NFAA Men’s Pro 3-D Champion.

An incredible weekend in all for Gold Tip and we look forward to seeing you at the next event.
