2007 Gold Cup, Bloomfield, NJ

Goldtip’s own Tim Gillingham has been playing with something “new” for the FITA world and it looks like it is going to be a top performing shaft like the rest of Goldtips’ incredible line of hunting and target shafts. Long distance shooting requires a heavy, ultra-small diameter shaft and this “new” shaft is just that. It also lives up to the durability that Gold Tip shooters have come to expect out of their shafts. “While I prefer the Prohunter for my field archery, there are definitely advantages at longer ranges and in inclement weather to a small diameter shaft.” In his last outing two years ago at the Gold Cup Tim shot a 1389 and tied for third in the qualifying round using Series 22 Ultralight Pro shafts. Last year in the Arizona Cup he used Ultralight 300’s to beat the field by 18 points in the qualifying rounds in some gusty winds. Weight is the big factor and then diameter comes into play for FITA and other long distance shooting.

This year Tim broke the 1400 barrier at the Gold Cup with a 1403 in the qualifying round for the first time in his archery career. This is quite remarkable as this is only the 6th FITA he has ever shot. A little nervous in the Olympic Round, he finished in 6th place losing to Logan Wilde. Congrats Tim!
